Doors open 11:30 a.m. 

The first part of the Solemn Good Friday Liturgy, the Liturgy of the Word, consists of three Bible readings. The first is from Isaiah 52, describing God's "Suffering Servant" and the second, from Hebrews 4, describes Jesus as  our "Supreme High Priest". The third, the account of the Passion from St John's Gospel, is either read dramatically or sung by members of the choir.

Then come the Solemn Prayers for the Church, the Bishop, the Faithful, the Catechumens, for the unity of the Church, for the Faithless, and for the conversion of the world.

The most moving part of the Good Friday Liturgy is the Veneration of the Cross, which is a symbolic way of paying homage to our Lord in his Passion and of dedicating our lives to following the way of the cross.

Then the Blessed Sacrament consecrated on Maundy Thursday is brought back from the Altar of Repose, and the service ends with Communion.
